Caring for our Mother Earth is at the heart of our school community.

Last Friday, teacher Dave and his amazing students rolled up their sleeves to help transplant native plants into our pollinator gardens and remove invasive weeds, making space for our pollinators to thrive. As part of our commitment to sustainable gardening, we also released native ladybugs into the gardens to help keep aphids under control. Many of us were excited to spot a baby ladybug for the very first time—proof that nature is always full of surprises!

We encourage everyone to use only native species if you try biological pest control at home, to protect our local ecosystem. Our gardens are located right next to the East River—which, fun fact, is actually a tidal strait and a vital nursery for marine life, not a true river! This unique location gave our students the chance to learn about stormwater runoff and its impact on our estuary environment.

A huge thank you to all the students and staff who volunteered their time and energy to make this day a success. Together, we’re making a difference for our planet—one garden at a time.
