It was a beautiful day for bird watching as our students immersed themselves in the wonders of the natural world!
During this hands-on outdoor lesson, students engaged in the process of bird banding-an important scientific method that helps researchers track individual birds, monitor populations, and study migration patterns, behaviors, and habitats. Through bird banding, students learned how this process allows us to gather valuable information about bird species, their lifespans, and their roles in the ecosystem, all of which contribute to a better understanding of the environment and the importance of conservation.
Beyond observing and identifying different bird species, students gained firsthand experience in how scientists collect data to inform conservation efforts and protect critical habitats. Activities like these not only deepen students’ appreciation for wildlife but also empower them to become stewards of the environment.
We are grateful to @pono.nyc, @city_to_sanctuary, and @westmorelandsanc for providing this incredible opportunity to learn outside the classroom and connect with nature. Experiences like these help inspire curiosity, build environmental awareness, and strengthen our #jaguarfamily.
